As we begin yet another year by the grace and mercy of Allah, we should reflect and look back at how much we have to be thankful for. Though we all have had our trials and tribulations or may still be going through rough times, our most merciful creator has assured us, after hardship cometh ease. Last year, some of us lost loved ones, some made new friends and welcomed new family members. A lot has changed for most of us. Though sometimes things aren't the way that we want them to be, we must always be thankful to Allah for what he has given us and continues to give us.
As a new year dawns, let us look back on what we did in 2007 that may have been displeasing to our lord and repent and beg him for mercy.
Almighty Allah has said in The Holy Qur'an:
"Forgiveness is only incumbent on Allah toward those who do evil in ignorance (and) then turn quickly (in repentance) to Allah. These are they toward whom Allah relenteth. Allah is ever Knower, Wise. "
Surah An-Nisa Chap #4 Verse #17
In other words, if we do happen to fall into sin, if we repent sincerely soon after we have committed the act, Inshaallah we will be forgiven, and Allah knows best.
We should look forward to living the year ahead of us in service of Almighty Allah, and keep his name on our lips with constant dhikr. We know not if Allah will allow us to see 2009, so we should indeed spend every moment available to us gaining proximity to Almighty Allah and his Messenger (peace be upon him). May Almighty Allah forgive us our sins and help us to practice what we preach. Peace and blessings also be upon the Beloved Messenger (peace be upon him) his family and his sincere followers.
